Longer Stories

Farthest Star Publishing is thrilled to announce an open submission call for stories and novellas that transport readers to distant worlds. Whether you're an established author or a fresh voice in speculative fiction, we invite you to contribute to our growing catalog of novellas, chapbooks, and "forgotten format" works.

We're looking to compile a catalog of standalone stories that will be published in paperback and eBook, stories that can be read in one or two sittings, are relatively inexpensive for the reader, offer the reader the chance to explore new authors and voices without the obligation of a 500 page novel, and stories that offer the tighter focus only a shorter work can bring.

Submission Guidelines:

Word Count: 8,000 to 17,000 words.
Submissions Open: March 10, 2024 and are ongoing.
Please send your manuscript as an [.rtf file] in standard manuscript format (to see an example, click here) to fartheststarpublishing@gmail.com. In the subject line, type “Longer Stories” Submission - [TITLE] – [WORD COUNT].
A short cover letter is advised. Remember to put your name and the title of your story.
Multiple submissions are welcome, but no more than three works from any author.
Simultaneous Submissions: Yes, just let us know if your story has been accepted elsewhere.
Reprints: Accepted and preferred, but only if the work hasn't been published in the last three years. (Let us know where and when).

Farthest Star Publishing is excited to announce that we're putting together our second official anthology, "Portals, Gateways, and Doors," and we want your short stories! We’re looking for tales that explore the mysteries of cosmic portals between star systems, mystical gateways into magical realms, and eerie doors that lead to unspeakable horrors.

Word Count: 1000-9000 words
Open for Submissions: May 18, 2024
Change in deadline!!! New deadline is: September 1, 2024
Release Date: Mid-October 2024

How to Submit:

Send your manuscript as an .rtf file in standard manuscript format to fartheststarpublishing@gmail.com.
Use the subject line: “Portals” Submission - [TITLE] – [WORD COUNT].
Include a short cover letter with your name and the title of your story.

Additional Info:

You can submit up to three stories, so feel free to send us your best!
Simultaneous submissions are fine, just let us know if your story gets accepted elsewhere.
Reprints are okay, as long as the work hasn’t been published in the last three years (please mention where and when it was previously published).
AI Content: We don’t accept stories written entirely by AI, but you can use AI for things like plotting, spell checking, and grammar.

Compensation: $10 for each accepted story.
